This position is located in the Mental Health Directorate located at the Captain James A. Lovell FHCC in North Chicago, IL. The primary function of the position is to work interdependently with other members of the clinical team to provide administrative and clinical patient care within the standards of clinic practice and performance. The multi-disciplinary team focuses on providing primary care to an assigned panel of patients.
Duties
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Administer vaccines in accordance with current guidelines, provide emergency care for treatment of anaphylaxis, provide patient education regarding expected reactions and proper post-vaccination care.
Perform phlebotomy using standard blood tubes in accordance with established standard operating procedures.
Prepare exam rooms.
Obtain patient medical records; document patients current medical history, drug history, chief complaints, allergies and vital signs; enter demographic data upon patient check-in; enter diagnosis and departing time when patient is released.
Check patient vital signs.
Perform diagnostic procedures.
Transport patients to other clinical areas.
Check each chart for provider signatures, stamp, and each patients diagnosis prior to returning chart to Health Records.
Maintain exam room stock levels and perform routine maintenance; ensure removal of any broken or unsafe equipment and notify appropriate personnel.
Complete lab and x-ray requisitions.
Operate the following medical equipment: Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor, Hand Held Nebulizer, EKG Machine, Electronic Thermometer, IV Infusion Pump, Typanometer.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 02/16/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-4. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: clinical laboratory tests and examinations, patient screening, venipuncture, patient identification, collects/ tests specimens, set up/ use of equipment, interprets test results, preventative maintenance of equipment, maintains laboratory records, provides clerical/ administrative support. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation, if required. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to l year of specialized experience.

Physical Requirements: Work center requires some physical exertions such as walking, sitting, standing, lifting and bending. Work may require prolonged periods of data entry and/ or retrieval on a computer. May be utilized for patient transport via wheelchair or gurney.
