About the Position: This Health Technician position is located at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Director For Medicine, Emergency Medicine Clinic.

Duties
Conduct intake procedures, obtains general medical information, including allergies and drug sensitivities; and takes and records vital signs.
Patient screening, evaluation of vital signs and blood glucose monitoring.
Prepares patients for tests, examinations, treatment, or minor procedures.
Draw blood, collect and prepare specimens such as stat urine, stool, sputum, and cultures for laboratory analysis.
Perform procedures within the scope of practice to include sterile dressing application and packing, enemas, suture/staple application and removal; applies orthopedic splints as prescribed by physician.
In the event of emergencies performs CPR.
Prepare and administer prescribed medication by oral, topical, intradermal, subcutaneous and intramuscular and intravascular routes.
Ensure proper computer entry of patient data and equipment settings.
Ensure treatment areas are sufficiently stocked in accordance with stablished parameters and supplies are not outdated.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- A Childcare Background Check (CNACI) is required. This position has a specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require contact with children.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Ability to perform extended patient care while wearing PPE (N-95 mask, gown, gloves).
- Ability to respond to emergencies throughout the facility while carrying life-saving equipment/supplies.
- Physical requirements include excessive walking, standing, sitting, bending, pushing/pulling heavy equipment weighted with patients (stretchers, wheelchairs).
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes reviewing patient records; taking and recording vital signs, blood pressure, and temperature; drawing patient labs and labeling specimens according to policy, starting iv line, staffing exam and procedure room and cleaning room after exams; and utilizing automated systems to check patients into clinic and update patient data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
