Duties

Independently advise, interface and participate with physicians in the design of complex drug treatment plans. Design drug regimens utilizing current pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles and specific patient parameters. Serve as expert consultant to in-house committees for selection and evaluation of drugs for formulary listing; proactively bring new pharmacotherapy advances to in-house committees and make recommendations for inclusion in the formulary. Serve as technical authority and resource with direct interaction with patients to independently obtain complete drug histories. Monitor and evaluate patient's response to drug therapy and recommend modifications. Serve as pharmacy liaison with physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other staff to resolve any drug related problems. Conceive, design, and conduct clinical research within specialty area of clinical practice as principal investigator; actively collaborate with staff and clinical researchers in the design and implementation of research protocols, collection of data, and in analysis and interpretation of results. Provide expert advice on appropriateness of pharmaceutical information, understanding of dosage modifications and practicality of treatment plans.

  • Position requires a doctoral degree in Pharmacy recognized by the ACPE or an accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Please submit your transcript.
  • Position requires an active, current license as a pharmacist in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Roco, or a territory of the United States.
  • Applicants must be able to distinguish basic colors.
  • Position requires a pre-employment medical examination.

Qualifications

You qualify for a Pharmacist, GS-0660 at the grade 13 level, if you meet the following requirements: Education Requirement: You must have a doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained; AND License Requirement: You must have an active, current license as a pharmacist in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; AND Additional Experience Requirement: In addition to meeting the education and license requirements, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing inpatient pharmacy services and preparing the complete range of sterile products (parenteral, enteral, and parenteral nutrition, and intravenous additives for a large medical facility); interfacing with physicians in the design of drug treatment plans; designing, conducting and participating in studies, audits and evaluations concerning drug utilization; providing drug information to physicians, nurses and patients on investigational drugs being utilized; compounding drugs as prescribed, including IV and chemotherapy drugs; teaching pharmacy techniques/procedures to other pharmacists.
