Duties
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience supporting clinical trials with protocol development and consultation, protocol review and pharmacy procedure set-up and implementation, investigational drug information, inventory management, record keeping, and quality assurance.
As a GS-660-14 Supervisory Pharmacist (IDCU), your major duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Performing the full range of supervisory duties and responsibilities including planning and assigning work and evaluating work performance and training needs of subordinates.
Ensuring that the CC and department's strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the staff, and integrated into the staff 's strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and work products and services.
Identifying and implementing ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work supervised and identifies the resources needed to perform the work.
Overseeing the workflow of incoming protocols and assigning them to the pharmacists properly.
Meeting with Principal Investigators to design the practical aspects of clinical trials before they begin such as randomization, stratification and investigational drug accountability plans, and the type and quantity of supplies needed.
Identifying key projects related to investigational drug management and is accountable for coordinating the implementation of these projects system-wide.
Resolving problems involving deviations from established procedures, unfamiliar situations, or unusual requirements on his/her own initiative; adjusts and varies the approach based on analysis of conditions/issues encountered.
Developing and administering internal surveillance and evaluations to assure conformance with plans and procedures; developing and implementing drug information activities and systems; modifying or adapting standard operating procedures; determining major modifications to study drug management activities as needed throughout the active protocol status to ensure patient safety and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Making authoritative determinations on conformance with requirements; and coordinating corrective actions or adjustments with the section reviewed.
Acting as liaison with and directs other department representatives by informing and instructing them on the myriad aspects of protocol initiation and implementation.
Advising on drug accountability aspects that are critical for the investigator to be in compliance with applicable federal laws.
Interacting with physicians, nurses, outside sponsors, and other health professionals during the course of the clinical trial to make needed adjustments to procedures and specifications.
Serving as a Subject matter Expert for the investigators in matters that relate to financial, logistical, legal, and patient safety aspects of a process that is by nature full of uncertainties.

- The incumbent supervises highly professional work of the GS-13 level that involves extreme urgency, unusual controversy, or other, comparable demands due to research, development, test and evaluation, public health, and medical issues.
Qualifications
In order to be considered for this position you must meet the requirements below:
Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (external link) (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
OR
A bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and a substantial record of experience and achievement that demonstrates competence in the pharmacy field. Individuals who qualify based on this option will be subject to a comprehensive evaluation of both their education and experience prior to final appointment.
AND:
Licensure:Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Additional Experience:
To qualify for a Supervisory Pharmacist (IDCU), position at the GS-0660-14 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Assisting with the creation of protocol-specific medication order templates for prescribing investigational products, using the electronic health record when applicable; Investigating and responding appropriately to errors, protocol deviations, or complaints pertaining to investigational products and developing effective corrective action plans when necessary; Preparing and leading Pharmacy regulatory audits; Maintaining knowledge of the unit technician's workflow as well as inpatient and outpatient pharmacy operations to facilitate safe and appropriate investigational product dispensing.
