The position is located at the VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS), an A1 complexity system of care consisting
of a tertiary care medical center located in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Qualifications
TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-05 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
ENGLISH/SPANISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English/ Spanish. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English/ Spanish in order to meet the requirements of this position.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) in Federal Service that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Administrative Support Assistant (OA), GS-05. Specialized experience includes: Managing a centralized process that involves receiving and reviewing essential paperwork for the appointment of trainees for the affiliated universities; Checking that the coordinators have collected all necessary documentation for the candidates; Gathering documentation packages and submitting them to the Human Resources Services for applicant processing; Providing orientation and training to employees and supervisor regarding above area of responsibility. NOTE: Your experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.-OR-
EDUCATION: Have successfully completed four (4) years above high school in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation.-OR-
COMBINATION: Have an equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total qualification requirements for this grade level. This education must have been obtained at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: Your experience must be documented in your resume and transcripts are required.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: No special physical demands such as above average ability, dexterity, or strength are required to perform the work. Work is sedentary and the employee may sit comfortably. There may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving of an automobile, etc. Fieldwork may involve traveling for interviews, meetings, and sources of information. Work is usually performed in offices, meeting rooms or similar settings within the VA Caribbean Healthcare System. Work includes the normal everyday risks and discomforts of auto, bus, rail, and air transportation, as applicable. The work environment Involves everyday risks or discomfort and requires normal safety precautions with office equipment typical of places such as office environment and conference rooms. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
