About the Position: The Honolulu MEPS is one of a network of 65 MEPS located nationwide and in Puerto Rico. The mission of USMEPCOM and the New Orleans MEPS is to process individuals for enlistment or induction into the armed services, based on DoD-approved peacetime and mobilization standards. The Honolulu MEPS is a tenant command of Naval Station Pearl Harbor.

Duties

Establish and maintain recruit records in automated systems. Read and interpret regulations, guides and other procedural instructions. Discuss personnel records with applicants to ensure accuracy. Proficient in Microsoft office suites. Utilize Human Resources systems and internet data-base programs to facilitate timely and accurate data input. Responds to questions from customers. Inform supervisor chain of complex or short fuse issues.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5-minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as maintaining applicant records; capturing applicant's fingerprints for pre-employment background check; utilizing office automation software programs to accomplish tasks.The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration, Human Resources, Management. You must attach your transcript with your application if using education to meet the qualifications. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:Computer LiteracyCustomer ServiceOral CommunicationPersonnel Action Processing and RecordkeepingTime in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
