Duties

This position is located under the Office of Enforcement Programs and Services (EPS), National Firearms Act Division (NFA) Government Support Branch (GSB), located in Martinsburg, West Virginia. This position may be assigned to any branch within the Firearms and Explosives Services Division or the National Firearms Act Division. The Division plans, develops, coordinates, administers and evaluates policies, programs, systems and procedures to provide for the regulation of the firearms and explosives industries, as required by the Gun Control Act of 1968, as amended; the Arms Export Control Act of 1976; Title XI of the Organized Crime Control Act of 1970, as amended; the regulation of commerce in National Firearms Act (NF A) weapons; or for the administration and collection of the Special Occupational Tax for NF A. Qualifications

Specialized experience is demonstrated experience, which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Experience must be in the normal line of progression or must be related to the work of the position advertised and must be reflected in resume. To qualify for GS-07, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-05. Specialized experience is: Assisting with the researching technical questions concerning various explosives and/or firearms regulations that are posted by the general public, the regulated industry, other agencies and Bureau segments; AND Drafting written replies. OR Full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement or equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be determined from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered and equivalent to 1 year of full-time study; OR Superior Academic Achievement (SAA): A Bachelor's degree in the above fields of study. SAA may be met in one of the following three ways: Class Standing-Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university or major subdivision, based on completed courses. Grade Point Average-Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on 4 years of education, or based on the last 2 years of the curriculum; or a 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 based on the average of the required courses completed in the major during the final 2 years of the curriculum. Election to Membership in a National Scholastic Honor Society-Applicants can be considered eligible to SAA based on membership in a national scholastic honor society that meets minimum requirements of the Association of College Honor Societies. OR combination of education and experience. To qualify for GS-09, candidates must also have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-07. Specialized experience is: Providing technical advice on the importation of firearms and ammunition, explosives and firearms licensing programs, or the manufacture, transfer and exportation of National Firearms Act(NFA) weapons; AND Drafting written replies; AND Utilizing databases and/or files on license and/or permits of firearms and explosives; AND Developing new and/or amending regulations on internal procedures and forms. OR Two full years of graduate education OR A master's degree, LL,B, J.D., or equivalent degree that demonstrates the competencies needed to do the work of the position may be substituted for the experience requirement; OR A combination of education and experience as listed above Please do not cut and paste the position description, specialized experience, or occupational assessment questionnaire from this announcement into your resume, as this will not be considered a demonstration of your qualifications for this position.
