Duties
Support the NIST SERI program in Sequences of Concern by designing and executing large-scale measurements of protein sequence-function relationships. Develop and implement measurements for analyzing the sequence-function relationship of various proteins, with limited supervision. Data management of sequencing and measurement files. Requires the consideration of precedents and use of judgment to develop measurement procedures for reliable and quantitative measurements of protein function. The position will impact the organization by providing needed expertise in protein engineering. The applicant will collaborate with Cellular Engineering Group members to share expertise across engineering biology projects. The work will advance large-scale protein measurements in the engineering biology program, with applications in identifying potential sequences of concern.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
A. Degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that includes 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: Course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
AND
IN ADDITION TO THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level (ZP-II for NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience with protein engineering, yeast and e. coli cell culture, or synthetic biology. Experience with methods for generation, selection, and screening of large mutated sequence libraries.
OR
Master's or equivalent graduate degree in related field.
OR
A combination of graduate education and specialized experience as defined in the additional requirements.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
