This position is located with the Location Support Staff for the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in Fargo, ND. In this position, you will be providing administrative and clerical support in an office setting; reviewing and maintaining records and documentation for accuracy; and coordinating new employee orientation.

Duties

Prepares, reviews and advises on all types of Personnel Action Requests (SF-52) and Position Descriptions (PDs) for servicing areas. Reviews and processes documentations associated with performance management to ensure correct completion prior to submission. Reviews, submits and tracks performance appraisals and standards, as well as individual development plans. Conducting new employees’ orientation for servicing areas. Prepares required forms for new employees to include Appointment Affidavits, finger printing, I-9, AD-349, W-4, FEHB, Life Insurance, SF-181, SF-256, etc. Responds to a variety of inquiries from employees regarding benefits, time and attendance, proper submission of forms, etc. log incoming mail/packages, ensure proper postage for outgoing mail and charged to correct accounts. Assists employees with pay problems, obtain information for verification of employment/salary, and/or obtain information on past employment history, awards, etc. Provides administrative support and guidance. Manage agency learning system to include pulling of reports and entry of training for personnel. Uses a variety of office automation software to prepare and produce a wide range of documents creating, updating or revising existing databases or spreadsheets. Type a variety of material from written material or drafts submitted on computer. Typing examples may include letters, reports, memoranda, charts, rosters, mailing lists, form letters, PowerPoint presentations, and forms. Uses database or spreadsheet software to record, revise, correct, merge, print, and program material.

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

GS-06 Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-06 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-05 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience providing administrative and clerical support in an office setting; reviewing and maintaining records and documentation for accuracy; and coordinating new employee orientation. GS-07 Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience performing human resources tasks including preparing and processing personnel actions and documentation; reviewing performance management documentation prior to submission; and operating and maintaining systems used to track personnel actions or employee information. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
