This position is in the Health Information Management Division within the Patient Administration Dept. under the Facility Support Directorate located at the Captain James Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) in North Chicago, IL. The FHCC is larger than just a single facility; rather, it is a system of facilities throughout Northeastern Illinois and Southeastern Wisconsin which provide medical and dental services to Veterans, U.S. military active-duty personnel, and eligible beneficiaries.
Duties

Duties include but are not limited to the following:
VA Records Processing 80%
Performs duties related to the receipt, scanning, and indexing of VA patient medical and administrative records. When records are received, ensures that all necessary health and administrative information is integrated into the VA medical record (VistA Imaging) system through PC scanning hardware and software. Indexes this information using Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) application bridges. Scans/indexes new medical and administrative documents following established policies and procedures and medical staff's identification of appropriate documents to be scanned, ensuring scanned image meets quality guidelines.
Maintains electronic and hard copy files in an orderly and systemic fashion in accordance with regulations and policies. Pulls, batches, and distributes medical records for needed scanning and ensures proper disposition after use.
Filing Duties 10%
Ensures all paper records/documents are properly sorted, filed and maintained according to policy upon return to File Section, upon completion of scanning/indexing.
Customer Service, Training and Support 10%
Greets patients in the HIMS reception area; provides information to patients; verifies identity before release of records for medical services.
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you MUST meet one of the following requirements:
General Experience: MUST possess one full year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position File Clerk position.
OR
Education: MUST have successfully completed two (2) years above high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. (Transcripts Required)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: MUST possess equivalent combinations of education and experience as described above may be fully qualifying. (Transcripts Required)

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: The work requires intermittent standing, bending, stooping, reaching and occasional lifting of material up to 50 lbs. The work is sedentary when sorting and sequencing documents or scanning.
