This position is located in the Supply Chain Management (SCM) Department at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC), North Chicago, Illinois; a 1c complexity facility. The Lovell FHCC is larger than just a single facility, but rather a system of facilities throughout Northeastern Illinois and Wisconsin which provide medical and dental services to U.S. Military Veterans, Recruits, and Active Duty and eligible beneficiaries.
Duties
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
-Processes and sorts all mail received and sent including registered, certified, insured mail and next day delivery for all activities within the center.
- Reviews incoming miscellaneous materials including mail, publication, and directives, to determine proper delivery point.
- Interacts with external contacts that include UPS, FEDEX, FEDEX Ground, private courier/messenger companies, and USPS delivery personnel on a daily basis.
- Performs such related duties as facing, sacking, bundling, and wrapping of outgoing materials.
- Maintains accurate production and supply usage records on supply usage records on data entry spread sheets.
- Uses network software to capture and/or merge data/information with a wide variety of word processing, graphics, and desktop publishing software packages.
- Receives and converts customer data (text and graphics) into formats suitable for production runs on an electronic duplicating system.- Performs daily and weekly maintenance functions in accordance with operating manuals and established procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

General Experience: You must have one year of general experience that demonstrates the ability to do the work of the position. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of the functions of a number of closely related medical, technical, and administrative organizations to route various types of mail. Knowledge of medical, technical, and specialized terminology associated with activities of several facility organizations in order to route specialized subject-matter materials to appropriate operating sub elements. Knowledge to process all types of incoming and outgoing mail in accordance with procedures. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 years above high school. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of experience and education as described.

Physical Requirements: The work consists of prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending and lifting to transport file records, supplies, equipment, heavy packages and mail bags weighing under 50 pounds. Heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from co-workers.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a variety of settings, as well as inside and outside areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. The employee may be required to wear protective clothing such as steel-toed shoes, and other types of safety equipment. Safety precautions are necessary.
