***ACTUAL DUTY LOCATION: MOUNT WEATHER, VA***Additional Information: NGA's Office of Expeditionary Operations (IX) seeks a self-motivated, enthusiastic IT Operations Engineer with a wide range of technical education and experience to serve in the Expeditionary Support Technology Branch (IXST). The IT Operations Engineer applies in depth technical knowledge, skills, and experience with industry standard server and desktop software and hardware to field complex GEOINT workstation and server systems; deployed network/SATCOM systems; and desktop and office automation equipment to meet expeditionary production requirements.The IT Operations Engineer participates in short- and long-term CONUS and OCONUS deployments to install, configure, and maintain desktop and server systems, desktop NAS units, printer/plotters, VOIPS, local area networks, as well as tactical SATCOM and terrestrial communications systems:* Deployments may be on short notice and under tight timelines and austere conditions.* Must meet CONUS short term and world-wide long-term deployment requirements (including medical evaluation) and must be able to deploy worldwide for at least 120 days per year to support operations in crisis areas.* Be available to participate in short notice TDYs to include the following: CONUS Crisis support, site surveys, equipment installs, equipment recaps, and troubleshooting/resolving equipment issues.* Interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills, including demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and in a team or collaborative environment.* Demonstrated ability to establish regular contact with high-level internal and external resources and have periodic contacts with other offices, supplying or seeking information on specialized and non-specialized matters; use of tact when expressing ideas or opinions to senior leaders, customers, contractors, and other stakeholders.* Must be willing and able to complete requirements for a state issued Commercial Driver's License within 90 days of filling the position.* Must have recent hands-on experience with administration of Windows and Linux Desktop/Server operating systems, TCP/IP based local area networks, Network Attached Storage. Experience with satellite communications and scripting of common system administrative tasks using Powershell Python, Bash or similar is desired.* Must have a range of hardware experience - proven skills to troubleshoot, build, rebuild, breakdown hardware components of different types - server, desktop, HPC.* Preferred DevSecOps experience. Exposure or experience deploying applications in an air-gapped system, hardening experience/exposure, working with tools like: ElasticSearch, docker, bash, ansible.* Prefer a system administrator background. Qualifications
MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). Demonstrated experience configuring, troubleshooting and providing Windows and/or Linux Systems Administration experience.2. Demonstrated experience with High Performing Computing/Big Data.EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Engineering, Engineering Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, Technology Management, or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of coursework in any area listed in option A, plus experience in IT operations, system engineering, system testing and evaluation, IT project management, or a related area that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals 4 years. -OR- C. Experience: A minimum of 4 years of experience in IT operations, system engineering, system testing and evaluation, IT project management, or a related area that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. -AND- LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: DAWIA Certification may be required for this position; See Position License and Certification Requirements for additional details. New Acquisition Workforce members or members transferring to a different or higher skill level will have, upon position entry, thirty-six months, forty-eight months, or sixty months, depending on the DAWIA Tier required, to achieve their certification. Current Acquisition Workforce members must maintain their current certification by achieving 80 Continuous Learning hours every twenty-four months. -AND- Relevant Competencies: IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired: 1. Experience with Satellite Communications.2. Scripting of system administration tasks using Powershell/BASH or similar.3. Data manipulation and visualization with Python and or Microsoft Excel.4. Host and Network based security solutions. 5. Knowledge of current standards and trends in desktop and server hardware to include network attached storage. 6. Ability to research technical solutions to generalized IT requirements for both desktop and service-based requirements.
