About the Position: Subject matter expert for traffic collision response, investigations, reconstruction, and traffic management operations. Uses specialized equipment and procedures to conduct traffic collision response, investigations, and reconstruction of incidents that result in major property damage and/or serious injury or death.

Duties

Enforces the laws of the United States, the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), and applicable local regulations involving persons and property. Prepares documents, correspondence, technical reports, messages and charts statistical tables. Appears in court to testify as required in Military Court Martials or Federal and State Court proceedings. Conducts traffic patrols, sets up road blocks and directs traffic. Takes charge of accident scenes and conducts investigations directing the initial response of uniformed patrols initially on the scene. Assists and guides military and civilian police officers that do not specialize in traffic control, special event support, and collision investigations.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy (USACPA), unless incumbent has a current approved waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal General (OPMG).
• Successfully graduated from a DOD, Federal, National or State approved Traffic Management and Collision Investigation (TMCI) course or complete within one year of hire date.
• Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
• This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by human resources within 30 calendar days after the Entrance on Duty (i.e., start date).
• Selectee’s inability to successfully pass or refusal to conduct the drug test may result in the job offer being withdrawn during the recruitment process or subsequently being removed from Federal service for failure to meet a condition of employment.
• You may be required to sign a Statement of Understanding if you are selected for this position.
• Incumbent must be able obtain and maintain a valid Secret clearance.
• Incumbent must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
• These include, but not limited to weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
• Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation.
• Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
• Comply with requirements and maintain certification under the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
• The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
• Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
• Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
• Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
• Incumbent is subject to possible civil and criminal action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
