About the Position: Serves as Shift Supervisor performing law enforcement work to maintain law and order, preserve the peace, protect life and civil rights, detect and investigate crimes, apprehend violators, and perform patrols within the jurisdiction of the military installation.

Duties

Serves as Shift Supervisor for the Law Enforcement force under the authority of the Senior Commander at Fort George G. Meade. Responsible for responses to and investigates emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service. Collects and preserves evidence, conducts long- and short-term investigations on criminal cases and analyzes facts to identify suspects and develop case information for use in pressing charges and bringing suspects to trial. Conducts traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar, Lidar, and breathalyzer. Protects personnel, material, tactical military assets, and high value assets by executing daily RAM and supplemental anti-terrorism measures during increased force protection conditions. Operates the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminal in accordance with federal and state laws to transcribe data. Performs supervisory and administrative duties relating to the police force including planning subordinates' work, setting short-term priorities, and preparing schedules.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position is Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • The incumbent must have successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy (USACPA), unless incumbent has a current approved waiver from the Office of the Provost Marshal General (OPMG).
  • Must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions including weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
  • Must meet the requirements of AR 190-56 (The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program) and comply with requirements to maintain certification under the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • Incumbent must pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Section 639 of PL 106-554, requires agencies to remove law enforcement officers from employment as law enforcement officers if they are convicted of a felony after the law takes effect.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 13 months. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
  • Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
