Duties

Provides assistance to maintain buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc. Drives pickup truck, 4x4 UTV's, and safely operates heavy power equipment (riding lawn mowers, weed trimmers, lawn edging equipment, and tractors) to maintain the landscape grounds area and designated areas adjacent to cultural resources. Uses power brush cutters and all types of hand tools to remove woody vegetation from sensitive cultural resources following strict guidelines. Duties include mowing and raking lawns; trimming shrubs and pulling weeds; picking up litter from grounds and roadsides; moving heavy furniture; loading and unloading heavy boxes, bulky supplies and material from trucks. Performs trail maintenance on walkways, paved and unpaved trails; sweeping steps and walkways and checking handrails. Uses hand tools (shovels, rakes, tapers, wheel barrows, etc.) to repair trail surfaces damaged by heavy rains or visitor use, must grade or slope repaired surfaces to correctly channel future rain events to lessen or prevent further damage. Operates heavily loaded wheel barrows on level and sloped surfaces to transport materials to the jobsite. Safely uses power chainsaws in the removal of down trees and brush. Carries brush and logs (up to 100 pounds with assistance) to designated locations away from areas of pedestrian travel. Removes, repairs, and constructs boundary fence throughout the park through very rugged terrain. Many of the materials (steel and wood posts, barbed wire, and tools) will have to be transported by hand to remote locations. Paints, stains, and finishes interior and exterior surfaces of buildings and signs; performs repairs on the same. Mixes and/or pours concrete or asphalt in the repair of sidewalks and parking areas.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT ELEMENT) Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, inc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials Must have a Driver's License If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. Physical Demands: The work involves extensive periods of standing and walking, in some cases over steep, rough surfaces or inclines, carrying tools and materials. Many tasks involve strenuous activity on a routine basis. Lifts and carries items up to 70 pounds. Work Environment: Work is performed in all type of environments where regular exposure to moderate discomforts is experienced, e.g., adverse weather conditions, high temperatures and humidity; low temperatures and wind chill; cramped, tight working areas, working from ladders, confined spaces, high noise, and dust.
