Duties

This position is a Working Leader assigned responsibility for building and utility maintenance work. The position provides daily direction to at least three (3) workers to accomplish trades work on a regular and recurring part of the job and exercised on a substantially full time and continuing basis. The highest level of work led is at the WG-08 level. As a Maintenance Worker Leader you will: Lead others in the application of trade skills in trails, roads, rigging, equipment operations, buildings (historic and non-historic), and utilities for operations and maintenance purposes. Maintain current knowledge and answer questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Ensure necessary safety protocols, plans, materials, supplies, equipment, and tools are available when needed; and recommend operational needs based on work requests to supervisor. Perform fieldwork including mowing, parking lot maintenance, building maintenance, and custodial services. Assist with asset and financial management, payroll, evaluations, and various internal controls. Perform trades work in: Electrical, Masonry, Carpentry, Painting, Plumbing, Roofing, or Engineering Equipment Operation. Area Information Fort Smith National Historic Site is situated in Sebastian County in Northwestern Arkansas. Winters are generally mild with average low temperatures around 35 degrees. Occasional fronts may cause extremes in low temperatures with heavy precipitation. Summers are generally hot and humid with average highs in the 90-degree range. Fall and spring are comparable transition seasons with very comfortable temperatures and abundant precipitation. Sudden thunderstorms, lightning, hail and tornado conditions are prevalent during spring and summer weather patterns. City of Fort Smith web site: http://fortsmithar.gov

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment.
