About the Position: Incumbent will serve as a (GS-0081-08) Lead Firefighter (Basic Life Support/Hazmat Technician) in the Directorate of Installation Services, Risk Management Division, Fire and Emergency Services Branch.

Duties

Performs emergency procedures as an Emergency Medical Technician - Basic Performs a variety of firefighting, hazardous material response, and related aid and rescue work associated with buildings, shops, warehouses, storage areas. Use chemicals, axes, bars, hooks, air packs, and other firefighting equipment to extinguish fires and protect life and property. Direct 3 or more crewmembers (including a driver-operator) assigned to a shift in structural firefighting activities and fire related rescue missions.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess/maintain the following DoD Certificates: Fire Officer I Fire Inspector I Fire Instructor I HAZMAT Technician
  • This position is designated by the Army as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Army civilian drug-testing program.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station.
  • The incumbent works a minimum of a 72 hour week.
  • Required to participate in a physical fitness program and pass an annual physical.
  • Incumbent is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week unless TDY or on leave.
  • Must possess and maintain Basic EMT Certification.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid driver's license.

Thirty-seven (37) years is the maximum entry age for covered primary/rigorous firefighter positions. Persons not appointed by the last day of the month in which the individual reaches his/her 37th birthday shall not be originally appointed or assigned to these positions. Applicants who are age 37 or over may subtract any of their prior federal service that is in approved primary/rigorous positions and that is creditable for retirement from their current age to meet this age requirement. Selective Placement Factors: This position has selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. You must provide proof of certification in your application for the following required DoD Firefighter Certifications:(1) Fire Officer I,(2) Fire Inspector I,(3) Fire Instructor I and(4) HAZMAT Technician. AND Must possess and maintain Basic EMT Certification. You MUST submit a copy of your certification with your application package or you will be rated ineligible. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Emergency Medical CareFire SuppressionFirefighting EquipmentManaging Human Resources Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
