Duties
Perform fire prevention inspections on diverse types of operations, storage, systems, and equipment.
Inspect systems and equipment installed by contractors to ensure fire prevention and protection code requirements are met in accordance with Army regulations and National fire codes.
Conduct training for fire fighter personnel in proper methods of evacuation, fire, and other types of emergencies.
Develop fire prevention and fire safety education lectures for demonstration purposes for a diverse audience.
Respond to emergency incidents as part of a firefighting team.
Conduct fire drills in all types of occupancies such as schools, hospital facilities, aircraft hangars, maintenance shops etc.
Requirements
- Must obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.
- An individual not currently occupying a GS-0081 position is required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical prior to being placed into this position.
- Incumbent is subject to periodic (e.g. annual) medical examinations following appointment to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
- Incumbent must participate in a cardiovascular physical fitness program.
- Incumbent must wear a uniform and appropriate safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- The work requires the incumbent to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid state and government driver's license is required.
- Occasional Temporary Duty travel (TDY) required (not more than 5%).
- Position requires heavy lifting of 45 pounds or more.
- Position may be included in daily staffing and/or on overnights, will be assigned to valid operations positions as directed by the Fire Chief.
- Position will work either a 40 or 56-hour tour of duty based on the Garrison’s needs. 56-hour tours of duty may require a weekly rotating overnight shift to eliminate overtime. May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays.
- Must be licensed as a Pennsylvania Emergency Medical Responder and/or National Registry.
- Incumbent must maintain a functioning telephone at their residence to aid in contact during recall/emergency situations.
- Incumbent is required to report for duty during inclement weather, Natural Disasters, and other emergency situations as directed by the Fire Chief.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) Performing fire prevention inspections on diverse types of operations; 2) Assists in plans review of architectural drawings and specifications to determine compliance with fire and safety regulations, codes, and standards; 3) Minor preventive checks on fire protection systems to include Fire Alarm and Sprinkler Systems and equipment; and 4) Performing a full range of firefighting duties that include responding to emergency incidents, fire suppression, fire investigation, and hazardous materials abatement. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
Selective Placement Factors: This position has selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. You must provide proof of certification in your application for the following required DoD Firefighter Certifications: (1) Firefighter I, (2) Firefighter II, (3) Fire Instructor I, (4) Fire Inspector I, (5) Fire Inspector II, (6) Hazardous Materials Technician, (7) Fire and Life Safety Educator, (8) Plans Examiner.
FIREFIGHTER SECONDARY RETIREMENT COVERAGE: This position is covered as a secondary firefighter position under the special retirement provisions of 5 U.S.C. 8336(c)(CSRS) and 5 U.S.C. 8412(d) (FERS) when it is filled by an individual who transfers directly from a primary or another secondary firefighting position with no break in service as a firefighter to this position. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
