The Work Study Coordinator (WSC) for the Regional Processing Office (RPO) makes eligibility determinations and processes Work-Study claims for all education benefit programs and Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation for a multi-state jurisdiction. He/she ensures the efficiency of the Work-Study program and may serve as team leader of the Work-Study Unit.
Duties
Provides information on application procedures and eligibility criteria to prospective Work-Study applicants.
Approves the Work-Study employment sites and Position Descriptions.
Reviews Work-Study applications and contracts forapproval or denial.
Prepares and issues Work-Study contracts and extension agreements based on enrollment periods and eligibility.
Assists in cultivating Work-Study opportunities within VBA, VH.A., the National Cemetery System and appropriate non-VA organizations.
Acts as a liaison for the RPO with school officials and worksite supervisors. Reviews, verifies, and re-computes time records submitted for appropriate payment. Initiates development and maintains control of Work-Study claims.
Processes and/or authorizes payments for Work-Study hours.
Approves or disapproves continuation of Work-Study contracts in the event of reductions to less than ¾ time training.
Maintains the record systems for the Work-Study program.
Conducts interviews in person and by telephone.
Reviews agreement adjustments, including terminations, to determine compliance with the original contract.
Coordinates adjustments in payments to include creation of overpayments where appropriate.
Makes payment adjustments in the event a contract is not fulfilled.
Assures that Work-Study students assigned at non-VA organizations have the proper supervision. Obtains, assembles, and calculates workload information.
Analyzes information for accuracy.
Maintains workload and activity records for DOOR and other required reports.
Responds to telephone inquiries from work-site supervisors and work-study students.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 hours/day between 6:00AM - 6:00PM, tour to be determined upon appointment

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/24/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-6) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
Providing administrative support and customer service to internal and external customers in an office environment; AND
Applying procedures for data entry and record keeping.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Daily use of data processing equipment in a sedentary position in an office setting. Lifting, stooping, and bending may be required in the handling of claim folders.
