This position is located within the Facilities Management Service section of the Eastern Colorado Health Care System, Denver. The Maintenance Mechanic performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures, and utilities. The duties are performed within at least two of the following trades: painter, plumber, carpenter, pipefitter, electrical equipment repair, and plaster. Work areas include both Area Maintenance functions and Project Support.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities will include:
Performing maintenance and repair of architectural, mechanical, and electrical components of buildings;
Installing, modifying, and repairing furniture items, doors, windows, floor coverings, baseboards, and signage;
Installing, modifying, and repairing plumbing and electrical systems;
Conducting inspections and performing routine maintenance on area of responsibility assigned;
Constructing/framing metal stud dry wall partitions and drywalling, mudding, taping, and plastering;
Patching and painting various surfaces;
Performing snow removal using vehicles for snow plowing, snow blowers, and shoveling;
Keeping storage areas clean, orderly, and organized to maintain an accurate inventory of supplies, tools, and materials.
Planning and measuring various materials according to requirements and dimensions outlined in instructions;
Reading and interpreting work orders, instructions, sketches, blueprints, and building codes;
Using and maintaining equipment and tools common to various trades;
Performing preventative maintenance on shop tools and equipment to ensure safe and proper function;
Working with wood or wood substitute materials, gypsum board or fiber-cement board, concrete/rebar, glass, etc.;
Installing laminate and protective coverings on various surfaces;
Laying concrete block brick and performing minor masonry repairs;
Performing related duties as required.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work requires a considerable amount of standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and/or uncomfortable positions. The incumbent may work from ladders and scaffolding. When operating equipment, the worker may be under a great deal of strain from constant reaching, bending, turning, and moving of hands, arms, feet, legs, and by the vibration and jerking of the equipment. The incumbent carries, lifts, and handles parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and may occasionally exceed 50 pounds.
