The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a senior Technology (IT) Specialist with responsibility for managing the base Local Area Network/Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN)
Duties
Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of 9th Communications Squadron, ensuring that Network Control Center compiles with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
Represents 9th Communications Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
Manages the base LAN/WAN systems, designs and monitors new complex network systems, configures and installs network hardware/ software, and maintains LAN Operations.

- This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
- A one (1) year supervisory probationary period is required if applicant selected has not previously met this requirement.

Qualifications

Experience: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS 11 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes; Supervising, designing, planning, installation, testing and maintaining routine as well as complex network systems designed for use throughout the installation. Routinely investigate and analyze a variety of unusual problems, questions or conditions associated with software systems application.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of full range of network systems (LAN/WAN) design principles, methodologies, and approaches
used in developing, testing, installing, operating, managing and maintaining network services that support functional requirements.
Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures
Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Knowledge of the network architecture, interrelationships, operating modes, configuration
Ability to gather facts and use effective analytical and evaluative methods to assess information, plan the sequence of actions necessary, make sound decisions, and solve a variety of network problems, and to analyze component interelationship and evaluate network systems and computer applications from an operational perspective
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
