About the Position: The New Orleans MEPS is one of a network of 65 MEPS located nationwide and in Puerto Rico. The mission of USMEPCOM and the New Orleans MEPS is to process individuals for enlistment or induction into the armed services, based on DoD-approved peacetime and mobilization standards.
The New Orleans MEPS is located in one of the most historic and picturesque cities in the United States. It is a tenant command of the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NAS JRB), New Orleans.
Duties
Receive all visitors and incoming command telephone calls. Determines nature of call or business of visitors and takes appropriate action.
Provides, administrative and unclassified, information to callers upon determination of their need to know.
Serves as a primary or alternate publications and forms clerk responsible for ordering and distribution of those products.
Operates a variety of office automation equipment to prepare documents.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5-minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience by performing administrative duties and clerical work such as maintaining records, files, timekeeping, and travel vouchers. Utilizing variety of automation systems to create documents, correspondence, reports, and personnel actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration, Human Resources, Management. You must attach your transcript with your application if using education to meet the qualifications.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
