About the Position:
Provide advisory services to the Commander of US Africa Command (AFRICOM) for maintaining full situational awareness on US foreign policy objectives as delineated by the US Department of State (DOS) and other US government agencies, to include their implications concerning military support and stability activities of the command in its assigned areas of responsibility/interest.
Duties
Provides advisory services to the Commander of US Africa Command (AFRICOM) for maintaining full situational awareness on US foreign policy objectives as delineated by the US Dept. of State (DOS) and other US government agencies.
Cultivates and maintains businesslike relationships with non-US government stakeholders and organizations, and others who influence US policy in Africa to promote accurate understanding of how the command fits into broader US policy.
Researches, develops, and proposes engagement opportunities for command senior leaders and staff, both internal to the US government and external in the NCR's African affairs community, where command goals and objectives can be advanced.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
- This position requires the incumbent to possess, or obtain and maintain, a valid regular or official U.S. Passport.
- Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain Country/Theater Clearance per the Foreign Clearance Guide located at: https://www.fcg.pentagon.mil/fcg.cfm.
- Must maintain no-fee passport and Visa, obtain any vaccinations and pertinent immunizations, and complete any pre-employment screening for country entry.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top Secret SCI security clearance or access for the duration of employment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Analyzing African defense and security policy issues; And 2) Providing advice on international and Africa policy formation and execution; And 3) Building relationships with civilian and military foreign policy organizations both internal and external to government. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
