This position serves as an Accounting Technician within the Resource Management/Accounting Section at the VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA.
Duties

Major Duties:
Examines and maintains accounts and accounting data;
Classifies accounting transactions including verification of accuracy and completeness of accounting data;
Summarizes transactions and prepares control documents or other posting documents reflecting the entries to be made;
Determines errors and makes adjustments in the correct appropriation to a variety of interrelated accounts;
Prepares reconciliation of the general ledger to subsidiary accounts, accruals, entries, etc.
Reconciles accounting systems;
Maintains control of funds obligated and funds expended;
Ensures timely preparation of all reports as requested;
Analyzes general ledger accounts to ensure accurate reporting;
Reviews pending items and ensures that follow-up action is taken;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5). Specialized experience is experience performing work in support of a budget, accounting, payroll and/or financial management office; using accounting principles, methods, procedures, and techniques; and utilizing accounting system software package applications and computer systems to perform a variety of accounting-related duties.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard. However, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. Nine hours of graduate education in accounting or accounting-related courses can be used to qualify in lieu of specialized experience. Transcripts are required if using education to qualify.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described above that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position. Experience must be detailed in your resume and transcripts are required.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates.
