This position serves as the Lead DRT/CT for a group of DRTs at the GS-09 level or lower. Performs computerized tomography of the head, neck spine, chest and body. These exams are performed without and with the use of contrast materials. On-call is required for this position. Incumbent may be required to work different modalities including: CT, plain film, portable X-ray, DEXA and fluoroscopy. Will be the liaison between the radiologist(s) and coworkers on the shift.
Duties
Duties include but not limited to:
Performs specialized and difficult computerized tomographic (CT) procedures.
Confers with radiologist to establish requirement of non-standard examinations and determines technical factors, positioning, image sequence, and number.
Assures that sterile supplies, contrast material, catheters and other required supplies are adequate, in date and laid out for procedures.
Receives patients and explains the method of the procedure.
Works different modalities including: CT, plain film, portable X-ray, DEXA and fluoroscopy.
Monitors the examination by checking computations and selects machine parameters to obtain the best diagnostic computer-generated data and images.
Performs clinical analysis of data recorded by the computer and does post processing prior to radiologist review.
Maintain files on patient, computer data and technical parameters of each examination.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Certification: Certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) and advanced ARRT certification in computed tomography (CT).
Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education..
Grade Determination:
GS-10 Lead Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist
In addition to meeting the basic requirements, to qualify for the GS-10 grade level, you must possess at least one (1) year of experience as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09)
GS-09 Knowledge Skills and Abilities, that must be clearly demonstrated in your resume:
Ability to balance the needs of patients and staff while still performing complex scans and procedures.
Knowledge of techniques for gathering relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and health care providers.
Ability to assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure.
Knowledge of basic first aid and basic life support practices related to radiography.
Knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic techniques, intravenous methods and techniques and universal precautions.
Knowledge of pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural care of patients.
AND
GS-10 Knowledge Skills and Abilities, that must be clearly demonstrated in your resume:
Ability to provide feedback to supervisor on technical aspects of work.
Ability to resolve informal employee complaints.
Ability to monitor and report on the status and progress of work and make adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established procedures.
Ability to perform general and specialized diagnostic radiologic procedures in advanced levels of complex treatment situations.
Preferred Experience:
Prefer three years or more experience.
Prefer candidates with multi-modality certification.
Prefer experience with 3D Post-processing.

The full performance level of this job series is GS-08. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this job series is GS-10 which is above the full performance level.
Physical Requirements: To perform in a fully successful manner, the individual must have the physical ability to perform job-related duties which require lifting, standing, bending, transferring, stooping, stretching, walking, pushing, or pulling without assistance from another patient care provider or significant other. A health examination must be successfully complete prior to this assignment and periodically thereafter as required by the Employee Health Clinic policy.
