This position serves as an Electrician (Laundry Mechanic) within the Facilities Management Department, Maintenance and Operations Section at the VA Health Care Center St. Cloud, MN. The candidate is responsible for work that covers regular and recurring operation and preventative maintenance of primary and secondary power distribution systems consisting of 34.5 KV and 13.8 KV medium voltage power, including switchgear, transformers, etc.
Duties
Must be thoroughly experienced (2 years or more), as an Electrician at a journeyman level (certification of this knowledge is possession of a journeyman class "A" license, or equivalent).
Work covers regular and recurring preventative maintenance of all equipment on the Health Care System campus which is electrically powered.
Responsible for preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on technically complex, heavy duty, commercial-type laundry equipment.
Works on machinery, equipment, and systems that have complex interrelationships among components.
Maintains and repairs building management equipment, such as floor scrubbers, vacuum cleaners and electric carts, etc.
Work also requires knowledge of all applicable codes and standards of electrical construction for remodeling and basic construction.
Perform electrical construction tasks including, but not limited to, wiring and installation of conduit, EMT, panels, breakers, transformers, switches/switchgear, motors, and signal devices.
Must be comfortable using plans, prints, schematics, one-line drawings, and ladder diagrams as applicable.
Must be able to utilize equipment to determine location of underground utilities as required.
Must understand and maintain, repair and construct low voltage circuitry, including telephone, security systems, nurse call systems, building automation and control systems.
Performs installation, maintenance, and repair work on all primary and secondary electrical distribution systems and equipment including: security door alarm systems; transformers; electrical switching equipment; standby generators; internal building wiring; fixtures and accessories; street lighting systems; public address systems; intercommunication systems; electrical motors; electrical appliances; dietetic equipment; shop and boiler plant control equipment; heating and ventilating system controls; installs computer lines, raceways, receptacles, and punch down blocks; telephone lines, conduits, and boxes for voice and data.
Cleans, adjusts, calibrates, and lubricates all equipment.
Keep an inventory of essential parts on hand so that minimum down times is achieved.
Operate all equipment to be able to differentiate between faulty operating techniques and machine malfunctions.
Instruct employees on the correct use, as well as, the specific safety features of all equipment.

Critical Skills Incentive: This occupation is currently approved for a Veterans Health Administration enterprise-wide Critical Skills Incentive through 9/21/2024. Candidates may be eligible for a lump sum CSI for a pro-rated amount if onboard prior to the CSI expiration date. Eligible candidates will be required to sign a service agreement agreeing to an obligated service period and failure to complete the obligated service period may result in a debt for the unearned portion of the CSI.
Physical Requirements: Electrical workers at this grade make repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. This requires electrical workers to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Electrical workers frequently lift and carry tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds) and, less often, up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Occasionally, they lift or move with assistance moderately heavy objects weighing more than 18 kilograms.

Preferred Experience: Commercial laundry equipment maintenance and repair experience. Journeyman level experience in the electrical trade, licensing preferred or accreditable schooling. Industrial processing equipment experience, electronics, PLC and programming machinery operations experience preferred.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
