The Program Support Assistant serves in Geriatrics and Extended Care (GEC) and is responsible for the administrative support to the Chief, GEC and the Administrative Officer (AO) of GEC. Areas of responsibility include financial resources, personnel, property management, administrative program management, data processing and reporting, procurement, word processing, time, Veteran and family contact, and special work assignments as required.

Responsible for administrative functions and assignments made by the AO and/or Chief
Provides for the overall administrative management for the organization.
Serves as timekeeper working within VATAS time system.
Receives schedules, refers, and contacts members of the staff, agency, and persons outside the agency ranging from other government agencies to the general public.
Determines which visitor or phone call should be referred to other service members and which should be handled by the AO or Chief.
Performs work in direct support of administrative areas such as: Human Resources, budget procurement, purchasing, management analysis, and/or operating program analysis.
Required to support the equipment preventive maintenance program
Types, from draft state to final form all Medical Center Memoranda for which GEC Service is responsible, adhering to Medical Center format as well as checking for punctuation, spelling and sentence structure.
Prepares outgoing correspondence and documents for signature.
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/19/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Skills in proper grammar, spelling, style and format, punctuation, sentence structure, vocabulary and English usage.
Communicate confidently, clearly, and patiently converse with geriatric Veterans and their families.
Prioritize and schedule tasks effectively.
Typing Proficiency Applicants for this position must show possession of the following skill: 40 words per minute typing speed. Applicants may meet these requirements by self-certifying their proficiency. You should be aware your self-certification of possession of this skill is subject to evaluation and verification.

Physical Requirements: The work is mainly sedentary. However, there will be walking, standing, bending, and carrying and lifting of light items such as packages, office supplies and books, generally of not more than 25 pounds.
