About the Position: This Industrial Hygiene Technician position is located at Kimbrough, Dir. of Clinical Support, Dept. of Preventive Medicine Industrial Hygiene. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Assist Industrial Hygienist with industrial hygiene surveys to identify and evaluate potential health hazards. Perform sampling using standard methods to determine nature and degree of hazard for a variety of materials and environments. Calibrate and use industrial hygiene equipment such various air sampling equipment, sound level metering equipment, and industrial hygiene equipment used to detect physical, chemical, and biological hazards. Conduct surveys and health hazards for; physical, chemical, and biological hazards, to include, noise, heat, cold, ionizing and nonionizing radiation Instruct users of respiratory protection in the proper selection, usage, and care of the respirator in accordance with all applicable regulations.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
• This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
• This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes identifying and evaluating conditions inside and outside the workplace that may affect employee health; calibrating industrial hygiene equipment to meet standards; operating and maintaining field and laboratory instruments to complete evaluations; assisting with industrial hygiene investigations within assigned areas; and performing work-site sampling with a variety of sampling instrumentation. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). OR Education: Two years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Occupational Health Science, Occupational and Environmental Health, Toxicology, Safety science, or related science. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
