About the Position: Serves as a Human Resources Assistant responsible for performing clerical or technical work supporting personnel screening in the areas of fingerprinting, submission of initial investigation data/requests in support of HSPD-12, hiring actions, and CYS and youth programs, and one or more military personnel programs.
Duties
Responsible for performing clerical or technical work supporting personnel screening in the areas of fingerprinting, submission of initial investigation data/requests.
Provide assistance with hiring actions.
Perform duties and oversee military personnel programs such as soldier in-processing and/or out-processing, soldier actions, casualty operations, records management, assignments/reassignments, personnel manning and retirement/transition processing.
Provide military functional services to military and civilian personnel, student personnel, dependents assigned or attached to the installation, retirees, local nationals, tenant activities, contractors, volunteers and DoD activities.
Prepares correspondence, reports and other documents in draft and final form using word processing software and/or other automated applications such as Integrated Personnel and Pay System-Army (IPPS-A).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This is a Term position scheduled Not-To-Exceed 4 years that cannot be made permanent.
- Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.

This is a Term Appointment, not to exceed (NTE) 13 Months. Term Appointments may be extended by 1-year increments without further competition; however, appointments may not exceed a total of 8 years.
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) preparing a variety of personnel actions that include forms and documentation associated with the maintenance of records, entitlements, pay, and other associated actions; and 2) support one or more personnel programs, operations, or functions in the management and execution of personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education Substitution: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Human Resources, Business Administration, Business Management, or Criminal Justice.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
