About the Position: This is a developmental position intended to provide training to prepare the incumbent to attain the intermediate, WG-6501-09 and full performance level of Ammunition Inspector (Industrial Radiographer), WG-6501-11.

Duties

Assist certified personnel in performing nondestructive radiographic (x-ray) inspections on guided missiles and related components. Train to use nondestructive testing equipment such as linear accelerator x-ray machines, automatic film processors, digital imaging systems, ultrasonic testing units, dye penetrant kits, and magnetic particle inspection units. Train to calculate equipment settings and focal parameters such as penetrameters, focal distance, lead shielding, etc. Train to maintain equipment logs and assist in writing inspection reports. Assist inspectors in performing operations on the inspection and serviceability of explosive and non-explosive electronic and electromechanical components of a variety of ammunition related items.

Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must successfully complete a variety of Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) and Explosive Material classes.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Pre-employment and annual physical exams are required.
  • Pre-employment and random drug testing is required.
  • A valid state-issued driver's license is required.
  • The duties of this position require licensing to operate a forklift up to 10,000 pound lift capacity.
  • This position requires Level 1 certification in Radiography.
  • This position requires Ammunition certification in accordance with AMC-R 350-4.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Lautenberg Amendment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Ammunition Inspector (Industrial Radiographer) without more than normal supervision. Assist with common nondestructive testing and or ammunition inspection. Operate, and adjust test, inspection, or associated electronic equipment. -Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Physical Effort: There is frequent standing, bending and working in tiring positions. Although there is occasional sitting down at test consoles or workbenches. It is required to lift, push and/or pull a variety of items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally some above that weight. Working Conditions: May work in an environmentally controlled area or in areas that are well lighted, heated and ventilated. Subject to high frequency noise, cuts, bruises, burns and shocks caused by high voltage.
