A candidate appointed at a lower grade level may be promoted up to the full performance level without further competition.

Duties
As a Pretrial Services Program Assistant (OA), you will:
1. Perform a variety of office support functions including but not limited to maintain letters for mailing, processing and handling of returned mail, sorting, stamping and distributing mail; arrange meetings and conferences; maintain time and attendance records; and maintain equipment and inventory of supplies.
2. Identify and recommend to the supervisor improvements in technical and clerical support functions for PSA.
3. Work with clients, defendants and their attorneys by providing general information regarding testing and unit operations, e.g. hours of operation. Maintain information on check-ins and provide information to callers and visitors or take messages and refer to the appropriate staff member; and perform data entry.
4. Perform support functions for PSA offices. Prepare correspondence and reports, assuring proper format and accuracy of spelling and grammar; file, retrieve and assemble information as requested.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the specialized experience and/or education requirement below AND you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
To qualify at the GS-5 level: You must have one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped me with the skills needed to perform the job duties. This experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as experience working in a fast-paced environment, answering multiple phone lines/emails, obtaining and verifying information, maintaining automated files, and performing other office support functions; OR
Substitution of Education for Experience: Four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university (Transcript Required). One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school; OR
Combination of education and specialized experience as described above. To qualify on this basis, you must have completed more than 60 semester hours of undergraduate education. Education beyond 60 semester hours is counted toward this requirement at a rate of 30 semester hours, or equivalent, for 6 months of specialized experience.
NOTE: Your resume must clearly show the specialized experience related to this position. Failure to demonstrate how you possess the experience requirements will result in an "Ineligible" rating.
