Duties

You will perform inside and outside plant work of the division, which is tasked with accomplishing construction, installation, maintenance, and repair services of fiber optics and copper communications infrastructure. You will determine vehicles, tools, materials requirements, and work methods to be used to complete assigned work. You will troubleshoot, test splices for shorts, opens, transposed/reversed pairs, crosses, splits, shield continuity, shield to earth grounds, bonding and grounding, on copper cables. You will maintain accountability of all items, vehicles, tools, and test equipment assigned to the section. You will provide technical support for planned projects consisting of switching and transport networks supporting analog, digital, voice, data, and video teleconference services.

• This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area 441-Network Operations Specialist within 6 months of appointment.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: Analyzing and understanding safety and health administration (OSHA) policies and procedures as they relate to the telecommunications infrastructure repair, maintenance and installation environments. Reading building blueprints, telephony infrastructure drawings and diagrams. Using tools such as electrical and manual drills, torque wrenches, screwdrivers, long-nosed pliers, fiber optic glass cleavers, and other specialized tools of the trade. Operating atmospheric testing equipment utilized in confined space work and recording readings as appropriate.
