Duties

You will perform inside and outside plant work of the division, which is tasked with accomplishing construction, installation, maintenance, and repair services of fiber optics and copper communications infrastructure. You will use various types of electronic test equipment, analyze system failures, isolate and document causes of outages. You will troubleshoot, test splices for shorts, opens, transposed/reversed pairs, crosses, splits, shield continuity, shield to earth earth grounds, bonding and grounding, on copper cables. You will maintain accountability of all items, vehicles, tools, and test equipment assigned to the section. You will provide technical support for planned projects consisting of switching and transport networks supporting analog, digital, voice, data, and video teleconference services.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: Performing the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair services of fiber optic and copper communications infrastructure. Determining vehicles, tools, material requirements, work methods, manpower, and skill requirements to be used to complete assigned work. Reading building blueprints, telephony infrastructure drawings and diagrams. Using tools such as electrical and manual drills, torque wrenches, screwdrivers, long-nosed pliers, fiber optic glass cleavers, and other specialized tools of the trade.
