The ideal candidate will have experience in Cardiac/Pulmonary-related studies as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner with past experience and skills including the following: collaborating in the medical management of complex patients in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team; independently performing excellent history and physical exams of patients with cardiopulmonary disease; and superior communication skills.

Duties

Expertly performing and documenting physical assessments and patient histories. Supervising functional studies such as cardiopulmonary stress testing. Collaborating with the patient, family and significant others in developing plans that consider and respect the patient's cultural background, level of understanding, and available resources and support systems. Serving as a patient advocate along with other health care professionals. Communicating and collaborating with the multidisciplinary research team to develop patient management strategies that are successful in meeting complex, subtle and challenging patient care and research needs. Designing, implementing and evaluating complex protocols and managing challenging patient or protocol populations. ls an associate or principle investigator for specific protocols. Collaborating with the other disciplines in obtaining and maintaining informed consent/assent and addressing complex ethical and legal implications of same. Interviewing, screening and may recruit patients for entry onto protocols. Serving on an IRB or other formal research related committees or workgroups which promote excellence in research. Using advanced communication skills to problem solve complex or unpredictable situations and to improve processes and services to patients and colleagues. Serving as a consultant and role model for professional practice, collaboration and communication. Recruiting, screening, and consenting patients for research protocols. Collecting and maintaining a research sample and clinical database. Developing an expertise related to regulatory requirements such as but not limited to protocol continuing reviews, amendments, site monitoring visits, data and safety monitoring board reports, and FDA reports. Maintaining regulatory binders, and monitoring and documentation of research participants’ reportable research events in compliance with NIH policy.

Requirements

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-13 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements: A. Possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. NOTE: Degree from a Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. AND B. You must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) or you obtained licensure before the implementation of the NCLEX-RN. Individuals who have not passed the NCLEX-RN, but meet all other qualification requirements will be subject to a comprehensive evaluation of both their education and experience prior to final appointment. AND C. Possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position. AND Additional Qualifications: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: assisting in the delivery of comprehensive nursing care to a specific population of patients in a healthcare setting; assessing, planning, performing and evaluating the delivery of patient care in a clinical research facility; serving as a leader in an area of clinical practice; coordinating and initiating internal and external referral and the multidisciplinary care of research. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
