This position is located in the Veteran's Health Administration, Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN6), at the Salisbury VA Medical Center, Salisbury, North Carolina. The purpose of this position is to provide support to Mental Health Services Line (MHSL) program, aiding both clinical and administrative staff where necessary. The primary duties involve providing a wide variety of administrative and technical assistant to maintain the MHLS within the assigned Sections of the Surgery Service.
Duties
Duties to include, but not limited to:
Perform general program support work such as the collection, compilation, research, and/or tracking of data and program information, and assists in compiling reports for the MHSL.
Receive all telephone calls and correspondence which are then screened on the basis of knowledge of the program or operations and refers to appropriate personnel for action.
Update Medical Center and service Memorandums; and assists with budget information specific to relative assigned program initiatives.
Perform work related to programmatic information and resource materials in order to support the policy development and/or technical activities of the organization.
Demonstrate skill and ability to compile and summarize information and data, identify inaccuracies or anomalies in the information, and make recommendations to resolve discrepancies based on interpretation of applicable regulations and procedures.
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing, in order to communicate professionally with a variety of representatives from various levels within and external to the agency.
Provides support to the Mental Health Clinic (MHS) in functions not limited to directing and managing patient contacts and inquiries, assuring patient appointment needs are met, providing phone coverage for phones calls to the MHC from patients and other agents.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/18/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. In addition to meeting experience or education requirements, applicants for these positions must show possession of the following skills, as appropriate. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years. Agencies may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.
Clerk-Typist, GS-2/4; Office Automation Clerk/ Assistant (any grade); (Typing) (any grade); and (Office Automation) (any grade):
40 words per minute typing speed.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: skill and ability to compile and summarize information and data, identify inaccuracies or anomalies in the information, and make recommendations to resolve discrepancies based on interpretation of applicable regulations and procedures. Knowledge of personal computer applications and demonstrated ability to design and maintain spreadsheets and databases using software programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and VA programs such as VISTA, CPRS, and TMS systems

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary, with the general ability to move around the office and the medical center and to carry such items as records, books, and equipment.
