This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Salisbury Healthcare system (VASBYHCS), in Surgical Service. The Program Support Assistant (PSA) works under the supervision of the Administrative Officer and he/she provides administrative support for the Operating Room (OR) and manages the national Surgery Package.
Duties
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Manages the operating room schedule for all surgical specialties.
Prints scheduling requests from CPRS. Compiles schedule based on parameters that establish Block Time specific to each day, operating room, and number of hours the surgical specialty is allotted for the specific operating room. Submits official schedule to Chief of Surgery for concurrence.
Manages the surgical service call schedules assisting with all subspecialties.
Posts new schedules monthly and makes any necessary or routine changes as requested by the service chief or deputy chief of surgery.
Gathers call schedule data from a variety of outside sources.
Receives all telephone calls and correspondence which are then screened on the basis of knowledge of the program or operations, and refers to appropriate personnel for action.
Evaluates and interprets administrative material received in the service, advising the supervisor and appropriate staff of anything that requires a suspense date or implementation. Sets up controls to monitor suspense date.
Establishes and maintains records and files according to written guidelines.
Updates and maintains policies and contingency plans to ensure the service performs without delay during emergency situations.
Serves as timekeeper, initiating and maintaining all required records.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: 7:00am - 3:30pm (Monday-Friday)

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 2/26/24.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06 . The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade n the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: knowledge of and performing office automation duties, knowledge of the Surgery Package, managing a clinic, procedures associated with operational activities that affect the patient flow, patient care, and the revenue process, Timekeeper experience, and use of computer equipment with a wide variety of software to input and retrieve data as required, produce letters, memorandums, and to prepare a variety of specific working documents and forms such as spreadsheet, database, word processing, desktop publishing, graphics, and other similar products.

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary but requires standing during presentations or training; may require some walking, bending, stretching and carrying objects such as files/binders. Work also requires spending time performing keyboarding duties. No special physical characteristics are needed to perform the work.
