About the Position: Serves as a Quality Assurance Assistant for the procurement and surveillance inspections of operational rations and ration components in accordance with contractual documents, directives from Defense Supply Center Philadelphia (DSCP), Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Public Health Command - Atlantic (PHC-A) and unit policies.
Duties
The inspection and Acceptance of Meals Ready to Eat (MRE) Final Lots for Government procurement.
Inspection of Subassembly’s on a daily basis.
Preparation and submission of component samples to various laboratories.
Inspection of a set number of samples for correct contents and shelf life.
Inspect of all pallets received that are destined for MRE use for mold and insects upon arrival, during storage, during assembly and at time of shipment.
Requirements
- This position requires the employee to be a fully qualified typist, who possesses typing skill at the level of proficiency required for competitive appointment to these positions. A fully qualified typist can type 40 words per minute.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires incumbent to pass a pre-placement medical and annual medical surveillance exam in accordance with Occupational Health requirements.
- This position requires that the employee must be able to obtain and maintain a current valid state driver's license, and any installation, DOD and/or Federal license or certification required for vehicle operation.
- This position requires that the employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Trustworthiness Investigation (SF85P)

One year of specialized experience at the GS-06 grade in the Federal service which includes experience in (1) Procedures and techniques for quality assurance, applying statistical quality control plans and methods to operations related to food quality, security, and safety; (2) Packaging methods for a wide range of products; (3) Interpreting and applying specifications, regulations and policies for inspections; and (4) Using a variety of equipment and subsistence testing methods to test and evaluate subsistence items.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
