The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as a senior Information Technology (IT) Specialist with responsibility for managing the Operational Weather Squadron (OWS) Local Area Network/Wide Area Network (LAN/WAN)
Duties
Manages the OWS LAN/WAN systems, designs and monitors new complex network systems, configures and installs network hardware/software, and maintains LAN Operations.
Performs analysis of complex user requirements and designs programs to support them.
As a senior IT specialist, performs feasibility studies on complex information systems and conducts in-depth analyses complicated by novel problems.
As a senior IT specialist, participates in management discussions, meetings, committees, or special projects.

Experience: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS 11 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes;Application of IT network systems design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintaining network services that support functional requirements. Establish network architecture, interrelationships, operating modes, configuration, topology, and protocols typically found at base level. Experience in network operating and maintenance concepts and methods to troubleshoot network problems.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of a full range of network systems (LAN/WAN) design principles, methodologies, and approaches used in
developing, testing, installing, operating, managing, and maintaining network services that support functional requirements
Knowledge of the network architecture, interrelationships, operating modes, configuration, topology, and protocols
typically found at base level.
Knowledge of network operating and maintenance concepts and methods to troubleshoot network problems.
Knowledge of complex configuration management techniques and requirements appropriate to managing base level network systems.
Knowledge of software design principles methods and approaches, complex systems software, systems development life cycles, including systems documentation, design development, configuration management cost analysis, systems integration, and testing
Knowledge of software programming languages such as JAVA, LEADS, PER, KML/KMZ,, HTML, Cold Fusion, Oracle, and Visual Basic.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
