Duties

-Performs medical records, administrative and clerical duties in support of the medical facility. -Initiates, locates, annotates, updates, and files patient medical records to include inserting additional forms and charts, filing results of treatments, filing results of laboratory tests, x-rays, and other procedures. -Organizes patient records to research records, extract medical information, and review records for completeness, accuracy, and consistency with medical facility requirements. -Receives and directs telephone calls, messages, and patients/visitors. Receives and relays and/or answers incoming and outgoing telephone, intercom, and electronic messages. -Answers questions such as those dealing with the availability of medical appointments, procedures for obtaining an appointment, and requests for appointments or appointment changes for the medical facility. -Arranges and schedules medical appointments and determines patient eligibility for services. Interviews patients who request medical examination/treatment to obtain pertinent information. -Reviews documentation to obtain additional information and determines eligibility for treatment. Immediately refers information on patients needing emergency care to appropriate technician, nurse and/or physician. -Uses multiple office automation software with varied functions to produce a wide range of documents, formats, etc., use of difference functions from one assignment to another. -Uses word processing software to create, copy, edit, store, retrieve, and print forms, memos, and letters. -Uses existing database or spreadsheet software to create, enter, revise, sort or calculate, and retrieve data for reports; and uses graphic software to provide graphs and charts for reports and presentations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. General Experience: Six months of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled, such as, Receives and directs telephone calls, messages, and patients/visitors. Receives and relays and/or answers incoming and outgoing telephone, intercom, and electronic messages. Answers questions such as those dealing with the availability of medical appointments, procedures for obtaining an appointment, and requests for appointments or appointment changes for the medical facility. OR Education: One year of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 6. Then divide your semester hours of education by 30. Add the two percentages. Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
