Duties

These positions are located within the Department of the Interior (DOI), Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) duty stationed in Sterling, VA or Washington, DC. The student trainee position supports and works with higher-level analysts in the performance of various aspects of the work. Along with training, work assignments are intended to develop and enhance the incumbent's knowledge, skills, and competencies through experience using regulations and guidance and performing the steps, tasks, processes, methods, and techniques to enhance understanding of the basic principles, concepts, and procedures used in performing analysis of a program, program segment, or specialized function(s), as well as to perform directly or closely related work. This analysis is needed to find and recommend solutions to challenges and to improve services, products, and/or general effectiveness of an organization's operations. At the full performance level GS-05 the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Performs a variety of routine program analysis and related tasks to familiarize them with its policies, procedures, and practices. 2. Requests, collects, compiles, and enters data and information. 3. Learns to recognize and completes, corrects, or removes anomalies and errors such as incomplete, improperly formatted, and duplicate data or information. 4. Runs standard or basic reports. 5. Prepares information and data in various common formats to be used in presentation. The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval. Salary Range Information (Sterling, VA & Washington, DC): GS-03: $35,947 - $46,729 Annually GS-04: $40,351 - $52,452 Annually First time hires to the federal government typically start at the beginning salary in the range for their respective grade level. PATHWAYS ELIGIBILITY - To be eligible for appointment to a position with the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, throughout the duration of the appointment, an individual must: Be accepted for enrollment or enrolled and seeking a degree or certificate in a qualifying educational institution on a half to full-time basis (as determined by the educational institution). Be seeking a degree that is relevant to this position. Be able to work at least 20 hours per week, depending on your academic schedule, and preferably full-time (40 hours/week) during the summer. Grade qualifications must be met prior to start date. NOTE: You must continue to meet these eligibility requirements throughout the duration of your appointment under the Pathways Internship Program. If selected you: Must sign a Pathways Internship Program Participant Agreement; May be employed throughout the academic year; Must maintain status as a current student; Must maintain good academic standing, at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grading scale. Must furnish course registration information at the start of each school term; and Must provide verification of academic status (transcript) at the end of each academic term. This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available. All applicants who meet the basic eligibility and qualification requirements will be referred to the selecting official in veterans' preference order. To qualify for this position, you must meet the (1) Pathways Internship Eligibility Requirements, AND; (2) the Minimum Qualifications Requirements defined below. (1) Pathways Internship Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for this internship all of the following requirements must be met: 1. You must be at least 16 years of age 2. You must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a degree or certificate program at a qualifying educational institution on a full or part-time basis. 3. If enrolled, you must be in good academic standing (At least a 2.0 GPA) 4. You must provide a transcript (official or unofficial) and proof of enrollment/acceptance. -AND- (2) Minimum Qualifications Requirements: GS-03: To qualify, you must have completed 1 full academic years of post-high school study at and accredited University or College, and/or Certificate Program (1 full academic year is equivalent to 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours). GS-04: To qualify, you must have completed 2 full academic years of post-high school study OR an associate degree (1 full academic year is equivalent to 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours). Academic Year Clarification: At the undergraduate level, 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours is comparable to 1 year of undergraduate education. When academic credit is expressed in units or other terms that differ from conventional semester or quarter hours, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide an interpretation of such credits from the institution. Only education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS AND PROOF OF ENROLLMENT. The Work Schedule of the appointee will be based on availability, which in part will be influenced by the appointees' academic course load.
