Duties

Serving as a Automotive Mechanic Supervisor WS-5823-11 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is located in Glynco, GA in the Mobile Assets Branch within Assets and Logistics Management Division under Mission and Readiness Support Directorate The primary purpose of this Automotive Mechanic Supervisor, WS-5823-11 position is to serve as a primary focus is to direct the maintenance actions required to supply law enforcement training programs and ensure all assigned DHS vehicles are in a safe and serviceable condition. Typical work assignments include: The Automotive Mechanic Supervisor reports to and serves as the technical adviser to the Mobile Assets Branch Chief/Fleet Manager on all mobile asset maintenance programs and functions. The Automotive Mechanic Supervisor is responsible for ensuring adequate quantity and quality of work is accomplished, and for assuring efficient and economical work operations. Advises the Branch Chief on the implications and feasibility of plans, proposals and recommendations. Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with a variety of personnel at installation level, throughout the FLETC, with contractors/vendors, and personnel from other agencies/components.???????

  • Travel of 25% or less may be required.
  • Overtime may be required.

  • Subject to an initial and annual physical examination that measures visual, hearing, and physical acuity.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Universal United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification for handling of refrigerants.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Hazardous Waste Management Certification.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Hazardous Waste Operations Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Certification - (Annual training for spill response emergencies).

  • Must successfully pass a background investigation for Suitability/Fitness (5N – Non-Sensitive, Moderate Risk).
  • This position is Emergency Essential and required to sustain FLETC’s operations under all conditions, e.g., in the event of a localized emergency situation, such as inclement weather, interruptions to power, or closure of DHS operations or services.
  • Must be able to meet job-related medical and/or fitness standards. Subject to an initial and annual physical examination that measures visual, hearing, and physical acuity.

While there is no minimum amount of training or experience required, the applicant must have had experience, military or civilian, paid or unpaid, of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic WG-5803-10. The applicant must have experience which requires: Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc., Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic), Use of Measuring Instruments, Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (Includes blueprint reading), Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment, and Trouble shooting. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Working Conditions: The work is performed in an office environment. and at various on-site facilities, with occasional travel to provide technical assistance at the other FLETC training Centers, to attend training opportunities and professional meetings. Supervises work inside in areas that are usually crowded and noisy, and outside, sometimes in bad weather. May be exposed to the possibility of electrical shock, cuts, bruises, and broken bones. May be required to start work earlier, stay later than normal working hours, or be called back for emergencies. Physical Effort: This work is basically sedentary; however, it may include bending, light lifting, walking, climbing, and reaching while inspecting and reviewing work performed by maintenance contract personnel.
