Duties

Serving as a Automotive Mechanic WG-5823-10 makes you a valuable member of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) team and mission. This position is located within the Mobile Assets Branch (MAB) under Assets and Logistics Management (ALM) within Division under the Mission and Readiness Support Directorate (MRSD) and located in Glynco, Georgia. The primary purpose of this Automotive Mechanic WG-5823-10 position is to serve as a primary focus is to provides fleet management and a wide variety of organization-owned and government-leased vehicles and equipment. These assets are used to support administrative, training, security, and maintenance activities necessary for the performance of the FLETC mission. Typical work assignments include. In accordance with work orders or oral instructions, the position locates worn or poorly adjusted parts through visual and auditory checks and using a variety of test equipment such as diagnostic computers, test lamps, timing lights, multi-meters, tachometers, and dwell meters. Responsible for making repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, adjusting, or cleaning defective parts or components. Replaces sensors, water pumps, spark plugs, brake shoes, mufflers, radiator caps, condensers, engine gaskets, a variety of belts and hoses, and complete assemblies such as removing old engines and replacing them with new engines. Adjusts brakes, transmission linkages, engine idle, voltage and current control valves, sensing valves, expansion valves, and pressure regulator valves. The position accomplishes the repairs abiding by all established MAB/Garage safety practices and environmental waste handling policies.

Requirements

  • Must successfully pass a background investigation for Suitability/Fitness (5N – Non-Sensitive).

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state issued driver's license to conduct official government business.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • Must be able to meet job-related medical and/or fitness standards. You will be subject to a pre-appointment and annual physical examination.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Universal United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification for handling of refrigerants.
  • You may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
  • You must successfully pass a background investigation.
  • You will need to set up direct deposit so we can pay you.

While there is no minimum amount of training or experience required, the applicant must have had experience, military or civilian, paid or unpaid, of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties of a Automotive Worker, WG-5823-10. The applicant must have experience which requires: Ability to Do the Work of The Position with Normal Supervision: The applicant must have experience performing such duties as diagnosing, removing, replacing, cleaning, and installing a wide variety of parts, components, and accessories on motor vehicles. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.
