This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), Office of the Chief Records Officer (AC). AC is staffed with records management professionals who are responsible for assessing the effectiveness of Federal records management programs, developing records management policy and guidance, reviewing records schedules and appraising records in Federal agencies, and providing records management services to Federal agencies.

Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. As an Archives Specialist, you will: Serve as the designated point of contact and technical expert for Federal agency records programs. Maintain state-of-the art awareness of records management developments, methods, and techniques, answering general inquiries from agencies on matters of records management. Review agency records schedules, appraises records, and process records schedules for approval by the Archivist of the United States.

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Assisting with reviewing, appraising, and/or processing of federal agency records schedules; AND Providing guidance and assistance to Federal agencies on records creation, management, and/or disposition; AND Communicating with internal and external stakeholders, both verbally and in writing. OR EDUCATION: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR COMBINATION: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-07, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Communicating with internal and external stakeholders, both verbally and in writing; AND Maintaining, transferring, preparing and/or locating a variety of federal records, finding aids and/or record descriptions. OR EDUCATION: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR COMBINATION: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F): For the GS-09, you must have been at the GS-07level for 52 weeks. For the GS-07, you must have been at the GS-05level for 52 weeks.
