This position is located in Lowell National Historical Park, in the Maintenance Division.

Duties

This position is located in Lowell National Historical Park, in the Buildings Division. The primary purpose of the position is to perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. Incumbent utilizes knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts. Perform duties such as Adjusts door hardware including door closures, strike plates, panic bars (crash out bars), locks and cores. Repairs and paints walls throughout the building, using drywall tools, paint brushes, roller, latex and oil based paints. Performs custodial duties such as carpet cleaning, vacuuming, damp and dry mopping floors, apply floor finishes and monitoring and restocking custodial (toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, trash bags, etc.) supplies throughout the park. Replaces burned out light bulbs, inlcuding a variety of fluorescent and LED bulbs; perfroms minor plumbing repairs such as to urinal flash valves, toilet flush valves and replacing of batteries in auto-flush machines and replacing toilet seats. Performs a variety of outdoor maintenance including maintaining grassy areas using lawnmowers and string trimmers and performing snow removal duties in the winter using shovels or snow blowers. Area Information: Lowell National Historical Park located in Lowell, Massachusetts approximately 28 miles northwest of Boston or 35 minutes by highway and served by commuter rail service directly to downtown Boston. The history of America's Industrial Revolution is commemorated in downtown Lowell. The Boott Cotton Mills Museum with a historic weave room that has 88 operating looms, the "Mill Girls" Boarding House dating back to the 1830s, the Market Mills Visitor Center and orientation film, the Suffolk Mill turbine exhibits, the rail line Trolley system, the largest hydro power canal system in the U.S. originated as a transportation canal in 1796 to bypass the Merrimack River rapids are preserved throughout the city and guided tours by boat or foot tell the story of transition from farm to factory, chronicle immigrant and labor history, and trace industrial technology. Lowell National Historical Park has the largest footprint and acreage of all the major urban National Historical Park designations within the National Park Service.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors. You must meet level 2 on the screen out factor/element and an average of level 2 on all factors/elements. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sectors: Ability to Do the Work of the Position without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen Out). Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) (JE#-25-E). Use of Measuring Instruments (JE#-60). Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (JE#-75-A). Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment (JE#-81). Knowledge of Materials (JE#-82-A). Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. (JE#-2E). This position requires operation of government owned motor vehicle, a valid unrestricted state driver's license is required. For this position, the work is defined as: full range of maintenance worker duties associated with more than one trade such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical and other trades appropriate to this position. Education
