This position is located in the Veterans Administration (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), in VA Medical Center (VAMC) Durham, North Carolina. The primary duties of the employee is that of a work leader, performing work which requires physical abilities and effort that involves specialized skill working and providing guidance of cleaning methods for all areas of the medical center.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: Independently performs the full range of cleaning duties in an assigned building or other area. Work with employees on work crew cleaning and maintaining various floors, wall, carpet and ceiling surfaces manually and with heavy powered equipment removed stains from a variety of surfaces. Gives guidance on how to operate cleaning equipment and tools properly along with adjusts/performs minor maintenance on such equipment. Occasionally works on ladders and scaffold to clean ceiling fixtures, wash walls, replace light bulbs, and perform similar task. Provides guidance to at least four employees to assure that activities are being performed in accordance with established cleaning procedures. Provides needed instruction, materials, keys, tools and operating supplies to the work crew. Passing on to other workers the instructions received from supervisor and getting work started, e.g. by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led; following up and inspecting work assignments performed. Working along with other workers and setting the pace; leading by example. Maintaining a current knowledge and answering questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions and other directives. Answering questions of supervisor on overall work operations and problems (for example, concerning additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees) Perform other job related duties as assigned. "This occupation is currently approved for a Veterans Health Administration enterprise-wide Critical Skills Incentive (CSI). Candidates may be eligible for a lump sum CSI. The amount of lump sum CSI is determined based on appointment date and may be pro-rated as determined by the end date of the CSI. Eligible candidates will be required to sign a service agreement agreeing to an obligated service period and failure to complete the obligated service period may result in a debt for the unearned portion of the CSI." Work Schedule: 3 shifts; 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m. -11:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. -7:30 .m. with rotating days off and holidays Position Description Title/PD#: Housekeeping Aid (Leader)--Critical Skills Incentive Authorized/PD06142A Critical Skill Incentive: Authorized (20% of base salary) Physical Requirements: Uses heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g. wall washers; industrial-type buffers and different type automatic floor scrubbers). Regularly exerts moderately heavy physical effort such as would be required in lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally object over 50 pounds.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
