The selectee for this position will serve as an Engineering Technician (CODE 200Q) in the Quality Assurance Branch of the Engineering and Planning Department (EPD) at PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will provide support and direction to various technical divisions with regards to quality requirements and administration related to non-nuclear engineering and planning.
You will review technical work documents used for the performance of work by the shipyard.
You will identify which deficiencies need to be reviewed for inclusion in follow-on Engineering and planning department products.
You will develop audit plans to support the goals of the department.
You will perform other miscellaneous duties as related to the office functions.

- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications

Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.
1. To qualify for the Engineering Technician, GS-0802-12, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying and articulating the principles, practices and processes of quality control;
Experience auditing and preparing reports of engineering products;
Experience interpreting engineering specifications and data for a quality program;
Experience in developing and conducting audits;
Experience initiating engineering investigations to develop or modify process and quality requirements.
2. To qualify for the Engineering Technician, GS-0802-11, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience applying the principles, practices and processes of quality control;
Experience reviewing and auditing engineering documents;
Experience interpreting engineering specifications and data for a quality program;
Experience in developing audit plans
Certification
Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience.
