This position is located within the Anesthesiology Service at the Durham VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Durham, NC. The Program Support Assistant (Office Automation) - Credentialing and Privileging and Residency Programs will provide administrative and technical support in the organization, planning, implementation, and quality management for the Residency, Credentialing and Privileging, VetPro, and Training programs for Anesthesiology Services.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** The major duties include but are not limited to: Serves as liaison between residents and hospital administration and maintains contact with Duke University to coordinate and monitor all aspects of the appointment process of the Resident/Fellow Program; Keeps records of all verifications of training, record reviews, and coordinates preparation of program certificates for each resident/fellow; Collects, researches, and analyzes data for the preparation of Educational Activity Record Reports; Maintains automated system of program-specific data to track items such as performance tracking of residents and student's attendance, clinical documentation, MedHub for billing, required education, and monitoring their VA requirements for computer and software usage; Performs credentialing and privileging program application, verification, and manages the documentation and records both electronic and hard copy; Enrolls new applicants in VetPro and provides support and information to assist them in submitting an application in VetPro; Provides technical advice and assistance to applicants, employees, managers, and Service/Service Line officials, pertaining to policies and procedures related to the credentialing process; Manages a database which contains expiration dates of current licenses, certifications, and basic life support (BLS), and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certification and privileges; Utilizes computer equipment with a variety of internal software as well as Microsoft Office products; Receives and processes incoming and outgoing correspondence, reports, and computer information for Anesthesiology Service; Serves as timekeeper; Coordinates travel for staff members; Maintains custody and inventory of all Service keys; Prepares monthly on-call roster; Receives, reviews, and posts schedules for anesthesiologists in the operating rooms; and, Performs all other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Typing Proficiency: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. ~AND~ In addition to the Typing Proficiency, to qualify for this position at the GS-6 level, you must meet the following: Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the federal service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of a Program Support Assistant (Office Automation) - Credentialing and Privileging and Residency Programs, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience is performing administrative and clerical assignments in a medical office setting; performing credentialing and privileging processes for licensed, registered, and certified healthcare providers; resolving problems or discrepancies based on knowledge of credentialing rules, regulations, and procedures; utilizing computer applications to perform work duties; maintaining files and records; screening calls and correspondence; compiling information or data and preparing reports. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: COMMUNICATIONS TECHNICAL COMPETENCE COMPUTER SKILLS PROBLEM SOLVING WRITING IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Typically, the person in this position sits comfortably to do the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts or driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
