This position involves performing administrative support work associated with animal health field activity in Veterinary Services (VS), Field Operations, within the Cattle Fever Tick Eradication Program (CFTEP), General and Financial Services.
Duties
The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity. The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Assists with position establishment, staffing and employment, employee benefits, and employee relations.
Assists with coordinating training, EEO activities, and safety activities across CFTEP.
Assists with procuring supplies, equipment, and/or services for CFTEP.
Assists with ensuring that sampling agreements, informal contracts, formal contracts and fee basis agreements are properly negotiated, executed and paid.
Ensures appropriate data is maintained at the CFTEP Laredo Main Office or field office level and resolves non-hardware, non-software problems in data collection.
Oversees certain VS field office activities related to emergency response; e.g., communicates with state, federal, industry, academic, and private responders for emergency management documentation.
Manages office records throughout their lifecycle (creation, use, and disposition).
Creates maps to distinguish areas of interest within the county including quarantine areas, systematic areas with livestock requiring assistance, horseback trails, and tagging regulation requirements.

- The work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required. Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate controlled office.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
FOR THE GS-5 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-4 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:
Using software packages to produce a variety of documents, e-mail, and updating calendars.
Utilizing standard office procedures in order to conduct routine work and knowing when to refer issues to a supervisor for further guidance.
Preparing routine correspondence or reviewing the correspondence of others, ensuring that spelling, grammar, and formatting are correct.
Maintaining an inventory of items and requesting supplies when needed.
Entering data into spreadsheets and databases such as Excel and Access. Retrieving information for reports and inquiries.
OR four full years of successfully completed education above the high school level.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for this grade level.

This education must have been successfully completed and obtained from an accredited school, college, or university
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-5 GRADE LEVEL: Applicants may have combinations of successfully completed education and specialized experience to meet total qualification requirements. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for that grade level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
