Duties

The Satellite Pharmacy provides clinical pharmacy services to inpatients and ambulatory oncology/hematology patients and supports investigational drug development and trials by providing authoritative advice on the medications aspects of research protocols. The ideal candidate for the Oncology-Hematology-Satellite Supervisor position will be an exceptionally talented, knowledgeable, and motivated Clinical Pharmacist with extensive sterile compounding experience and expertise providing pharmaceutical care to complex, oncology and hematology patients to include the monitoring of investigational studies for compliance with research protocols; reviewing drug therapy for proper drug selection, rational indications, dosing, adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, IV incompatibilities, and complications of multiple drug therapies; and providing ongoing education to physicians, nurses, and pharmacists on pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacogenetics, and other aspects of drug therapy. Duties for the Supervisory Pharmacist (Oncology/Hematology - Satellite) will include but are not limited to the following: Providing pharmaceutical care to complex oncology/hematology patients Serving on in-house panels, medication related committees and work groups Developing templates based on new and amended research protocols to guide medication preparation activities Collaborating with internal staff and clinical researchers in the design and implementation of research protocols, collection of data, and analysis of results. Coordinating drug retrieval and preparation based on drug stability, preparation complexity and patient arrival time Reviewing of medication orders for compliance with research protocols Reviewing medication orders for standard of care indications, dosing, adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, IV incompatibilities and supportive care regimens Collaborating with providers in the design and optimization of complex drug treatment plans.

Requirements

Qualifications

In order to be considered for this position you must meet the requirements below: Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (external link) (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. OR A bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and a substantial record of experience and achievement that demonstrates competence in the pharmacy field. Individuals who qualify based on this option will be subject to a comprehensive evaluation of both their education and experience prior to final appointment. AND: Licensure: An active current license as a pharmacist in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional Experience: To qualify for the Supervisory Pharmacist (Oncology/Hematology - Satellite) position at the GS-0660-13 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: Serving as pharmacy liaison with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other staff on units to resolve drug related problems; Evaluating drug literature in order to compare and contrast therapeutic regimens and uses for new and existing pharmaceutical products; Monitoring active investigational studies to ensure policies concerning use of investigational drugs are being followed; Providing pharmaceutical care to a complex, specialized patient population.
