These positions are located at the Edward Hines Jr., Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital and Clinical Based Outpatient Clinics - a Level One (1a) Complexity Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Facility, and is organizationally aligned under the Customer Relations and Engagement Office. There are twelve vacancies in the following locations: ten (10) vacancies in Hines, Illinois; one (1) vacancy in Kankakee, Illinois; and one (1) vacancy in LaSalle, Illinois

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** The purpose of this position is to serve as the Red Coat Ambassador Program (formerly Patient Escort and Screener Program) in support of the overall mission to enhance the level of patient satisfaction and positive customer satisfaction in day-to-day operations. for the Facility Patient Information/Red Coat Ambassador Program (formerly Patient Escort and Screener Program). Provides Veterans, Family Members and Guests with staff who can respond quickly to inquiries, identify problems, and aid/improve the experience of those visiting the campus. Services provided by the Red Coat Ambassador Program are designed to provide navigation, direction, and information assistance. Ensures patients needing a wheelchair or stretcher receive assistance and is responsible for assisting/escorting Veterans to their appointment location if needed. Maintains an appropriate supply of materials pertaining to services and locations of these services for proper referral and coordination. Provides information about the organization, its functions, activities and personnel. Inquiries vary widely and information given requires explanation of office functions, describing specific requirements, providing basic instructions, or similar degree of detail. Inquiries received require evaluation to determine the most useful and appropriate information, resolve inconsistencies in available information or provide alternatives. Supports the MyHealtheVet Program by serving as an authenticator. Assists veterans signing on to MyHealtheVet for the first time; Provides appropriate documents for the release of information to ensure safety and security when utilizing the MyHealtheVet website. Performs other duties assigned. Work Schedule: Various Shifts Available between 5:00 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. based on the needs of the service. To be discussed during interview. Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not Required Physical Demands: The work required prolonged periods of time standing, walking along with patients, their families and visitors, and sitting at computer for extended periods of time to perform work. May be required to push a wheelchair, stretcher, bend or kneel to obtain information or assist patients, and to to carry light objects such as files, clipboards, medical records, etc. Work Environment: Involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of a medical center. Work may also be performed in an outdoor setting in a wide variety of environmental conditions and in an indoor setting. May be exposed to communicable diseases. Safety precautions are sometimes necessary.

EXPERIENCE: Requires one full year of general experience defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. -OR- SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed 2 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. -OR- COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of one year) combined with general experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical)Decision MakingOral CommunicationPhysical Strength and Agility IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
